Dementia Stabilization Unit

Stabilize. Analyze. Educate.

The O’Rourke Dementia Stabilization Unit (DSU) is the result of a consortium from the four counties of Grant, Green, Iowa & Lafayette.

Concerned members of the community recognized the need to care for our older adults with dementia and envisioned a compassionate safety net for those suffering from distressing and sometimes violent symptoms of dementia.

This brand new unit and the only one of its kind in the State of Wisconsin offers: Short-Term Respite, Medical Evaluation, Psychiatric Assessment, Social Evaluation, Education for Caregivers & Behavior Support Plan.

In the unit, individuals will be given a thorough assessment of their medical and care needs, and from that, the caregivers will be given the tools that work best for their situation.

The goal for the Dementia Stabilization Unit is to return people to their homes with better support and education for the caregivers.

Part of discharge is to train caregivers at home or in other facilities and provide local resources to build a stronger support team.
